Can you tell I got my hair cut? I decided to do that about a week ago, and when Denny had Tuesday afternoon unexpectedly off, I called and made an appointment. Anyway, this photo was taken on the tail end of the hike...see that tired little guy?
Last Wednesday, Dylan and I went hiking at the Narrows Nature Reserve. I discovered the Narrows while I was on those PLEASE TAKE A NAP car rides. When the nap car rides need to happen, I tend to drive in a direction I haven't driven before. I ended up in Southern Beavercreek and a wooded area with trails. Yay for me! So, on Tuesday, when Dylan was up early (and slightly cranky), I decided we'd head out for a hike in the woods. The day was lovely and I hated to waste it inside. So off we went.

After a cranky car ride, Dylan was very happy to hop out of the car and his mood immediately changed. He spotted the steps up to the trail and was ready to go. He climbed all of the steps and requested that we count them. I counted, and then he would count (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10!). At the top, I let him choose the direction we would go on the trail. And we were off. There were more stairs and inclines to go up and down (and count!). We discovered wild mushrooms, spiders, daddy long legs and rocks.
Dylan finds a mushroom, which he picked and then proceeded to squeeze the bejesus out of it. Mushrooms really are full of water!
At the end of the trail there was a lovely field of wildflowers. It looked like the trail continued, but it was closed for construction. Dylan walked most of the way to the wildflowers. Then we stopped for a snack.
Dylan looks around while eating his snack.
I wish I knew what kind of flowers these are...they sure are lovely!
I believe this one is Queen Anne's Lace.
On the way back, we spotted a pretty pale blue damselfly. I tired to get a picture, but my little point and shoot doesn't do well in shady situations...it tends to overexpose things. When we go back with Denny, I'll be sure to take my good camera. Dylan was getting tired and I ended up carrying him a little over half the way back. It was so cute though, when he was walking he held my hand the entire time. Something that can be so hard to do when we are in a parking lot. All in all we hiked for an hour and enjoyed a cool afternoon in the woods (i really love the shade in the summertime). And I had a nice tired little guy for bedtime.
Dylan loves to find sticks shaped like Y's. Here he is looking for a tiny Y to go with his big Y.
