Of course, he's been one for a couple of weeks now. I've been so slack at getting the blog updated, mainly cause I had a slew of photos to get through and get uploaded. So, I guess I'll get started with the updates.
Sue and Ward were very happy to arrive in Japan and see Dylan. He welcomed them with lots of smiles and giggles and warmed up really quickly. Grandpa always wore a hat, and quickly became "hat, hat" in Dylan talk (which means Dylan would sign "hat" over and over again looking at Grandpa). Grandma became "clap, clap" after playing clapping games with Dylan the first day. Dylan would ask for them in the mornings by signing hat and clapping his hands and looking at the couch where they usually park themselves. Too cute! The first few mornings were spent watching the World Series (Sue and Ward are big Red Sox fans), and just hanging out while they recovered from the jet lag.

Dylan's birthday was on October 26th, and we did open a present or two a day early.

Denny's sister Stacey and her family sent this cool walker/ride on car for Dylan. He loves pushing all of the buttons and trying to walk with it.
On Dylan's birthday, Sue and Ward brought over such a wonderful gift–a drag around quilt for Dylan (every grandchild gets one on their first birthday). It's full of all sorts of fun things to point out and find, and Dylan had great fun looking at it. He's learned some new words from the quilt...like "cat".

Dylan likes the sunshine he's staring at in this photo.

This is Dylan's sign for hat. Usually it's on the top of the head, but he does it to the side. And when he gets really excited about a hat, he smacks himself pretty good. Denny said that if we all wore hats he'd probably knock himself out with the signing.

Denny and Dylan have fun with hats.
For Dylan's birthday, we headed back to the Daiei play area for some fun with his friend Miguel. Here are some photos of the fun:

Edza, Miguel and Dylan enjoy the balloons.

Here we all are in the ball pit.
Dylan's Birthday Party was the day after his birthday. The theme was "Have a Ball" and we had lots of beach balls for the kids to play with. We also invited them to wear their Halloween costumes since it was so close to Halloween. All the babies were adorable in their costumes...and of course there are tons and tons of photos from the day. So you can click here to see them all if you'd like. I'll just choose a few select photos here.

Elliot (in the yellow chair) watches all of the excitement. That's Mikaylah as Tinkerbell, Dylan as Godzilla, Kai as a pumpkin and Miguel as a giraffe.

"Hey, I'm ready to go eat Tokyo!"

Sue and I get the cake ready to cut.

Abbey has fun in our mini ball pit.
On Sunday, unfortunately, Ward came down with some sinus-y cold type crud. He had to miss our dinner with Culture Group. The rest of us enjoyed yummy yaki-niku and Dylan got to stay up way past his bedtime. He did really well, even when he got a little slaphappy.

Dylan has fun with Suetsugu-san.

Chizuru had fun dancing in her chair. She is flanked by Yuko on the left and Yukiko on the right.

Sue enjoyed talking with Tadashi-san.
The rest of the trip was not as eventful as the first half. Dylan ended up catching a cold too, so we really just did a lot of hanging around the house with some short shopping trips off base. We really enjoyed having Sue and Ward visit, and Dylan still asks about them every now and then, and will sign "hat" if we say Grandpa.
